Throughout intravenous therapy (also known as IV therapy), fluids, medications and nutrients are delivered directly into the veins. People who are unable to or do not want to consume food or water naturally may receive intravenous nutrition instead. Intravenous nutrition is commonly used for rehydration or nutrition for those with reduced mental capacity or other limitations.
